VR > According to our guide, all soviet памятники were removed in Budapest. They gave Russians the choice of one they would keep - this is the memorial to Soviet liberation of Budapest from Nazis. Coincidentally it sits on the square in front of the US embassy. During the riots of 2006 the obelisk was defaced, Hungarians have rebuilt it and put a fence around it.
